Default Prot Spirit fading away?

As I have been obsing GvG these past 2 months. I realize Prot Spirit has been disappearing from the bars of WoH Monks lately. I first realized this from Awowa [rawr], but its probably due to the fact that rawr rarely takes damage over 60 anyways, and they sometimes got vitals.

However, soon, I started to notice more monks aren't running it. At first it is mostly in split builds where the monks would drop PS for sprint. However, the lack of PS could result in a quicker death on split if its shatterstone split, or a ranger split where they do more than 90 damage. As I continue to obs, more monks even 8 v 8 builds have monks not running PS.

Why is this?

I can't speak for other teams or monks, but I removed it once fastcast water mesmers started making a consistent appearance in GvG. Since interrupts are no longer a reliable form of disruption for it, it became imperative to find an alternate and more reliable method to deal with water hexes (veil was no longer enough).

No matter what I brought for it, something had to go to make room for it. The skill which had the least effect of an outcome of rawr matches was prot spirit, so it got the boot. It's still a good skill and I'll sometimes bring it depending on the map/opponent, but right now it doesn't give a great enough benefit to be worthwhile bringing on my bar.

No VoD means you don't need Prot Spirit as much but still virtually every team still takes prot spirit because of how awesome it is used on low health targets.

Prot spirit is kinda useless vs pressure and basically an empty slot against spikes. Guardian is simply better at keeping your team alive atm.

Assuming a bar like:

infuse
patient
word
draw/dismiss
guardian/prot spirit
sprint/rejuv sig/cure hex/glyph
disciplined/aegis
veil

Its more useful to take guardian over prot spirit currently. Endurance warriors are better countered with a guardian on that 3s recharge power attack, just sb for spikes, and the midline has more hexes than direct damage. Taking it for 1 sloth or 1 shatterstone isn't viable. Dual guardian relieves pressure somewhat, and makes their pblock less useful.

With death penalty prot spirit owns, but taking it for that is silly.

Also pre-protting with prot spirit is kind of a waste of energy as it will just get rended off so you'll still need to infuse, patient spirit is a better pre-prot in most cases and only 5 energy.

because guardian is better. its less energy and has a shorter recharge time, so if it gets stripped, you just redo.

and prot spirit is kinda weak unless you have pretty low health. which is dumb to do in pvp.
